Opportunities From: Pocono Mountains United Way

Pocono Heritage Land Trust acquired a 137 acre property in Barret Township that will eventually become a public nature preserve.

It is a beautiful property, mostly wooded but with a beaver meadow and other wetlands. There are a few historic dump sites on the property that we would like to clean up.

Volunteers will remove old tires and other trash from the property. The work will be physical and could involve carrying heavy bags and other trash across terrain with uneven footing.*

We do not know yet whether lunch will be provided for volunteers. Please plan on bringing own water bottle(s) and food unless notified that they will be provided. 

*Please bring work gloves and wear comfortable shoes/boots to work in.

Volunteers will meet at the Meals on Wheel office in Stroudsburg before loading up and leaving for deliveries. Volunteers/Teams will be utilizing personal automobiles to deliver meals to our homebound clients in Monroe County.

Volunteers will take part in various indoor and outdoor tasks at Safe Monroe (weather depending) including, but not limited to; painting, organizing, cleaning, moving furniture.

We have a large cut up wood pile that we are hoping to get cleared up. Volunteers would help in bringing the wood to the wood splitter to be split and stacked for the upcoming winter. We use this wood to heat our large water system to keep our veterans homeless shelter water heated.

Join us in making a difference for the preschoolers at our East Stroudsburg location! We’re looking for volunteers to help enhance and maintain our outdoor spaces so children can play safely and freely.

What You’ll Do: Lay down mulch in large areas to improve the safety of our play spaces. Take on smaller landscaping projects including pulling weeds, removing bushes, and cutting brush.

Why It Matters: These improvements will create a safer, more inviting environment for our preschoolers to explore and enjoy. Your work will directly support the health and well-being of young children in our community.

We’re looking for volunteers to help us improve and maintain our preschool environment at our Tobyhanna location. Your time and effort will create safer, more inspiring spaces for young children to learn and play. Your work will help provide a safe, beautiful, and engaging environment where our preschoolers can thrive.

Volunteers will be participating in a variety of volunteer projects at Pocono Services for Families and Children's Mountain Center in Tobyhanna.

Volunteers will be setting up a Carport for the dog residents of the animal shelter to have an outside area to play that is a contained and safe space.

Volunteers are asked to bring tools if possible: e.g. Drill, Screwdrivers, Work Gloves, etc may be needed

This project will focus on sorting, categorizing, and arranging donated furniture and household items, making it easier for families in need to access essential items as they move into stable housing.

Note: the location is behind Angel Café off Main Street in Stroudsburg. We have a parking lot behind our building and then a six-car car garage which is green and white on Milay. Parking is not ideal, it is suggested to park either on Main Street and pay the meter, or perhaps nearby in a public parking lot.

PFYMCA is expecting to break ground this fall on the new construction and renovation project. We are preparing to move our operations into different spaces in the building and move various items to storage and possibly to dispose in a dumpster. 

We really enjoy getting to know volunteers in our community and building connections with them and hearing why they chose to spend their day with us at the Y. It is a great time every year!

We will have a Home Preservation Project on that date to help repair a client's home. Volunteers will help by assisting builders with minor repairs, cleaning the worksite, and other tasks. Participants do not need any specific skills to participate and can learn skills on the job.

Exact location for the home repair will be determined shortly before the event.

*Please bring work gloves and wear comfortable shoes/boots to work in. Volunteers under 18 must have an adult present to volunteer.
